Southwark council approves new boutique hotel on Borough High Street
LOCAL councillors in Southwark have given the green light to a new boutique hotel on Borough High Street in London.
The proposals will see the demolition of an existing two storey property at 153-159 Borough High Street to make way for a new 50 bedroom hotel.
The new hotel, designed by architects Squire and Partners and described as “bold and contemporary” by planning officers, will be seven storeys tall and include a roof terrace.
The properties being replaced date back to the early 20th century and neighbour a Grade II listed building. An 18th century “ghost sign” which can currently be seen on a neighbouring property will be lost from public view but will used as the inspiration for a new art installation on the hotel facade on one elevation.
The developer also plans a high quality restaurant the ground level. An operator for the planned hotel is yet to be confirmed.
