Greenwich Mercure readies for launch
A NEW 145-room hotel is just weeks away from opening in Greenwich.
The Mercure Greenwich has been created in what was Maurice Drummond House – an eight storey 1930s Metropolitan Police section house on a quiet street in Greenwich.
Room rates will start at £139 at the 4-star hotel which is operating under Accor’s upmarket Mercure brand.
The redevelopment of Maurice Drummond House was carried out by principal contractor Rees Mellish Ltd and architects Assael Architecture.
Stephen Willmore, Assael Architects, said: “The original building had become redundant and had suffered from vandalism over the years. This was an exciting opportunity to refurbish, renovate and reuse an existing building.
“We have also been lucky enough to work with an imaginative client and enthusiastic project and construction managers that have helped to move the project forward.”
The refurbishment has included extended the hotel upwards with the addition of new penthouse suites offering stunning views across London.
Mercure Greenwich’s opening comes in what has been a momentous year for Greenwich, with the borough being given Royal status by HM The Queen and the hosting of Olympic events in three venues.
