Boutique hotel planned for Manchester’s Corn Exchange
MANCHESTER’s iconic Corn Exchange building could be the home of a new boutique hotel.
Plans for an 86-room hotel have been reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Planning permission was granted last summer for the late 19th century, Grade-II listed building for a number of change of uses to shops and restaurants. A further planning application for more restaurants was submitted to Manchester city council in April of this year.
But now owners Aviva Investments have unveiled plans to incorporate a hotel into the £30million regeneration of the building that was damaged by an IRA bomb in 1996.
Simon Green, Asset Manager at Aviva Investors, told the Manchester Evening News: “We are committed to the full redevelopment of this remarkable building.
He added: “The listed nature and subsequent planned layout of the building actually means that there will be an opportunity to create some large, yet interesting, voluminous bedrooms – a really unique and stylish destination.
“Our research also tells us that even with the combined planned hotel openings, Manchester is still identified as having a shortage of such an offer, this could be a very exciting opportunity for the right partner and we’re very interested to start discussions with interested parties.”
Stuart Harris, partner at Queensberry Real Estate who are the project’s managers, said: “the new boutique hotel could prove to be the icing on the cake for this landmark development.”
