Historic Manchester fire station set to become new Zetter boutique hotel

A GRADE II listed fire station in Manchester is to become home to a brand new boutique hotel operated by the Zetter Group.

110-year-old London Road Fire Station was the headquarters of the Manchester Fire Brigade and has also housed a police station, an ambulance station, a bank and a coroner’s court.

The historic property was bought by developers Allied London last year with a mixed use scheme at the fire station planned and Zetter Group now announced as the site’s anchor hotel operator.

Zetter Group, founded by restaurateurs Michael Benyan and Mark Sainsbury, are teaming up with interior designers Russell Sage Studios for the new boutique hotel, which will be the fourth in the group’s growing portfolio and their first outside of the capital.

Michael Benyan, the Zetter Group’s Director, commented: “We are delighted to have finally found the perfect opportunity to open a Zetter property in Manchester. London Road is an iconic building and a real gift for us as hoteliers. We want to preserve the existing beauty and magic of the building and use it to help create a unique experience for our guests.”

Michael Ingall, Allied London’s Chief Executive, added: “We were taken by the hands on approach of the Zetter owners, which we felt was vital in establishing London Road as the new benchmark for hospitality in Manchester.

“The building is in safe hands. I have no doubt that the Zetter Hotel will become a must-stay destination for Manchester’s many visitors.”

Plans for the hotel will be subject to a planning application which is expected to be submitted in Autumn 2016. Zetter’s other hotels are the Zetter Hotel, the Zetter Townhouse, Clerkenwell and the Zetter Townhouse, Marylebone.
